Mirror
It had been several weeks after the incident with Joshua shooting me in the face, again. I had returned to life and begun a new one, a better life. The old Neku was no more, and I was reborn. My headphones… Well, I may have left them on the ground but Shiki argued with me for days to put them, at least, around my neck. I had finally caved and put them around my neck.
After THAT incident, I began to look at life differently. Everything seemed brighter, the music seemed better, and my friends had always kept me well and emotionally stable. Of course, that was until one day…
"Neku!"
"Yo 'Phones!"
I turned my head around to see Rhyme and Beat charging towards me and Shiki, but they seemed to stop dead in their tracks as they saw we had locked hands.
"Yo 'Phones… You two…?"
I nodded slowly as Beat's jaw dropped like a cartoon characters would.
"WHAAAAAATTTTT?!"
Shiki giggled as I chuckled and Rhyme grabbed Beat's hand and dragged him off, murmuring something about 'giving them some space'. I looked at Shiki with a smile as we walked towards the one place I knew I would feel at home. Shibuya Square.
When we arrived, it was as loud as usual, but something was amiss. I looked around, trying to find the source, and then I looked up at Floor Q. My happiness immediately left me as I saw an image of the old me pushing everyone away from me. My friends, my family, everyone. It was like a twisted mirror… and Shiki saw it too. I closed my eyes and looked away, holding back the tears I knew would appear sooner or later. I didn't want to remember this. I hated it. That's when the oddest thing happened… My headphones were put on my ears again. I blinked twice and looked at Shiki, who had a faint smile on her face, looking into my eyes.
"Neku…"
She wrapped her warm arms around me, burying her face into my chest.
"You're not bad. You never were."
He slowly wrapped my arms around her as well, closing my eyes and kissing her head. I knew now that the mirror I had seen was a test from Joshua, a test of my will.
And, with Shiki's help, I passed with flying colors.
